Black camera screen or blurry photos? Your phone camera can be fixed
A phone camera that shows a black screen, will not focus, or takes permanently blurry photos is more than inconvenient — for most of us, it’s our only camera. Sigma Mobiles diagnoses and repairs phone camera faults in Malta on all major brands starting, with most fixes completed within an hour at our Hamrun workshop.
Camera problems range from simple to complex. A cracked outer lens glass is the most common issue — the sapphire or glass cover over the camera module shatters from a drop, letting dust and moisture reach the sensor. We replace the lens glass when the camera module itself is undamaged, which is often the case. If the module is damaged, we replace the entire camera assembly.
Common camera faults we repair
Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) failure
OIS failure causes blurry photos, especially in low light. The tiny electromagnetic stabiliser inside the camera module can jam after a hard drop. On recent iPhones and Samsung flagships, OIS is tied to the camera serial number, and a simple module swap can trigger software limitations. We will explain whether your specific model has this restriction before starting work.
Focus motor failure
A camera that hunts endlessly but never locks focus. Sometimes resolved by a settings reset; more often the focus actuator inside the module is mechanically stuck. We test this during the free diagnostic — tapping the phone near the camera while the app is open can sometimes free a stuck motor, but a permanent fix requires module replacement.
Front-facing camera and Face ID
On iPhones, the front camera is part of the TrueDepth sensor array, and a fault here can also break Face ID. We handle this with priority on preserving biometric functionality. A working Face ID is worth more than a rushed front camera repair that breaks it.
Malta: capturing island life deserves a working camera
From Golden Bay sunsets to Hamrun’s architecture, Malta is one of the most photographed places in the Mediterranean. A broken camera does not just affect your selfies — it affects how you document your life here. Salt air and sand from beach trips are particularly hard on camera modules. Fine sand particles can work their way past damaged lens glass and scratch the sensor itself. If you’ve dropped your phone at the beach, have the camera checked even if it seems fine.
